Panelboard Specifications
Panelboards come completely factory assembled and equipped with a main circuit breaker (if specified) and the type, size and number of branch circuit breakers, arranged and numbered as per a panel schedule(s).
Panelboards should be fully rated. Series rated panelboards are not acceptable. Series-rating a panel or switchboard and using lower AIC-rated circuit breakers is an option that could reduce the electrical installation costs of a project, but because of the great risk to the facility and personnel in the event of an electrical fault, properly rating a panel or switchboard’s current interrupting capacity must be a priority.
All multi-pole breakers come with a common trip conection. Branch circuits come arranged using double row construction. Bus sequence is ABC top to bottom, left to right for both top and bottom fed panels. Use at least 100 ampere breaker-connecting bus straps and mounting hardware.
Provisions or space for future breakers should be provided and located at the bottom of the panel and be fully bussed, complete with the necessary mounting hardware.
